POST GROUNDS - Kunstsammlungen der Ruhr-Universität Bochum

Prey animals and the materials and techniques of their capture and processing interweave, evoking a glimpse beyond the victim-perpetrator dichotomy. The antlers are cast in a soft plastic used for fishing bait, from the hunting trophy of the deer that the artist's grandfather shot and killed. He was a serial pedophile rapist.

The framed hide is a costume in the performance film TRAUMATOPHILIA (wt) and made of the same bait material. The film imagines the workings of transgenerational trauma as mathematical shapes, as if desperately trying to find a system of logic that can help make sense of what is ineffable. Here, it's the aperiodic monotile: A shape that infinitely repeats as it tiles the plane, but never in the same way, never in a discernible pattern.
