SECURITY TYPE CASE / SECURITY DISPLAY

wooden letter case, various hard labels for securing goods, 2025
/
styrofoam, PU foam, newspaper, acrylic paint, compressed air hose, rubber, 2025

Lempertz Auction House Cologne

A variety of anti-theft tags for retail are sorted into an old type case, originally designed for holding movable type used in letterpress printing.
Once obsolete, such cases and new replicas were often repurposed by collectors to carefully arrange and display miniature figurines and other cherished keepsakes.

An enlarged replica of an anti-theft display mount for smartphones rests against the wall. Newspaper pages faintly emerge through the paint.
Both sculptures probe the construction of security - what or who is a threat and at what point, what measures are enforced by whom and when? They further question the boundaries of ownership—what do we possess, what can we claim, and what drives our impulse to protect?
