FRACTALS ARE NOT NECESSARILY SELF-SIMILAR

experimental film, 8:20 min, 2025

Fundamental principles of cinematography manifest in the diegetic world as two characters struggle to communicate, trapped in two layers of cadrage. In a wide shot, they can walk around in the room, position themselves in relation to the other. As soon as they start to speak, we jump into a close-up of their face, framed by a tighter aspect ratio. Speaking in poetry, speaking about mathematics; as a thematic predecessor to TRAUMATOPHILIA, the fractal already represents a deterministic view of eternally repeating trauma. Suddenly upon a revelation, the frame of the close-ups materializes as a metal cage that the protagonists tear apart.  For the first time, they can talk to each other in a medium shot.
